About Bandmaster William Himes
William Himes was born and raised in Michigan. He is the son of Salvation Army officer parents and the oldest of six children.
Bill attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, receiving his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music Education and Performance/Composition, respectively. Since that time he has appeared as conductor, clinician, and soloist throughout the United States, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Bermuda, Brazil, France, Germany, Haiti, Jamaica, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Well known for his compositions and arrangements, Mr. Himes has more than 180 publications to his credit. These, along with numerous manuscripts are continually featured on international broadcasts and recordings. He presently teaches composition at Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL.
From 1977 to 2015 he was head of The Salvation Army’s Music and Gospel Arts Department for USA Central Territory in Chicago, Illinois. In this capacity also served as conductor of the Chicago Staff Band, which has shared its music ministry throughout North America and the world.
Bill and his wife Linda are active members of The Salvation Army of Oakbrook Terrace, IL, where he serves as Bible study teacher, bandmaster, beginning brass teacher, songster and meeting pianist. On July 2, 2000, he received The Salvation Army’s highest honor, the Order of the Founder, presented by General John Gowans at the International Millennial Congress in Atlanta, Georgia.
