30th Oct 2016.
A packed house attended the annual Anniversary Concert of Heritage Brass at Oshawa Temple. This is always one event that former members attend and it was good to see and greet many alumni.
The band’s guest for the evening was Bobby Irvine, a Salvationist from Ayr, Scotland. Bobby had been a guest of HB once before, so there was great anticipation of hearing him sing once again.
Bobby did not disappoint. Singing songs… ‘Climb every mountain’, ‘Bring Him Home’, ‘Love Changes Everything’, Bobby wowed the crowd with his powerful, controlled voice. Bobby was also joined by Deliah Williams presenting that beautiful vocal duet – ‘The Prayer.’
Heritage Brass presented a light, balanced programme of music with marches ‘Steadily Forward’, ‘Salvation’s Song’, ‘The Maple Leaf’ and ‘The Witness.’ Deryck Diffey, Keith Bond and Cliff Cummings played the cornet trio ‘The Veterans.’ Gary Dean played the Euphonium solo ‘Love Lifted Me.’ The band also played ‘Power Divine’, ‘When I’m 64’, and Bill Himes’ arrangement of ‘This is my Father’s World.’
The evening concluded with the Divisional Commander Lt. Col. Sandra Rice giving a devotional thought before everyone retired to the gymnasium for light refreshments and fellowship.
Heritage Brass provided a light program of music for a seniors program at Calvary Baptist Church, Oshawa.
This was the first visit for the band. It was good to meet with several people who were former Salvationist musicians. It was publicly noted how much the people enjoyed the many arranged melodies and marches the band played which included many well-known hymns and Christian songs.
Deryck Diffey played the cornet solo “I Surrender All.” Gary Dean played the euphonium solo “Love Lifted Me.” The cornet trio, “The Veterans”, was well received, played by Deryck Diffey, Keith Bond and Cliff Cummings. Lt. Col Alf Richardson (Band Executive Officer) provided a brief devotional.
Following the program, the band enjoyed a light lunch which the church provided.
Heritage Brass made a return visit to the Salvation Army Lakeshore Community Church following their first visit last year. The corps people once again warmly received the band with a program of music that included Salvation Army Marches, S.A. arranged Hymns and Christian songs. Congregational singing was also included with Lt. Col. Alf. Richardson bringing a Sunday evening devotional. Once again the corps people provided light refreshments for everyone following the concert.
Meighan Lodge – 10th September 2016. Heritage Brass made their annual visit to the Salvation Army Meighan Residence which was intended to be a garden party setting. Sadly, the weather did not co-operate so the event was held in the lounge of the residence. Speculating, it was thought that this must have been the 10th year that the band have attended this event. A light programme of music consisting of many loved SA songs and hymns and marches was enjoyed by the residents. The programme consisted of 2 halves with a lunch break. The staff are to be commended for a wonderful spread of refreshments consisting of a hot and cold main course and desserts to follow.
